Dolce & Gabbana is celebrating. For the last ten years, the founders and designers of the visionary fashion house have been touring Italy via their Alta Moda collection. Each year, the collection highlights a region of their homeland, emphasizing the unique characteristics of that region’s history and its people. To more effectively highlight the culture and traditions that inspire the designs, the house has sought to add more and more narrative elements to its shows. Take an Alta Moda tour of Italy with Dolce & Gabbana and experience the story of this beautiful nation.

2012 – Taormina

The first stop on the tour is Taormina, a small town on a hill overlooking the Ionian Sea. History is on display here, from the narrow streets to the Greco-Roman theater, allowing visitors to take a journey back through time. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana were inspired by this history that showcased the cultural elements that have made Italy what it is today. “Creativity comes from passion,” the designers believe, and being passionate about their roots and heritage, the pair set out to design a show that would revive and celebrate the tradition of Italian craftsmanship.

2013 – Milan & Venice

After a stunning opener, Alta Moda continued its tour in Milan and Venice. Dolce & Gabbana finds inspiration in nature and architecture, and as they designed, the Duomo di Milano was at the forefront of their architectural inspiration. Like the Duomo, Alta Moda collections are often based on a meditation on the union of opposites. How do solids and empty spaces work together to create beauty? How can a masquerade’s seductive drama and mystery pair with a kaleidoscope of bright, bold colors? The answers are the designs featured in the 2013 Dolce & Gabbana shows.

2016 – Milan & Naples

In 2016, the tour continued in Milan and Naples. The house first pays homage to Elvira Leonardi and her legacy of connecting opera and fashion. Alta Moda tells Italy’s story through the designs representing each region. Moreover, the women of Dolce & Gabbana became as much a part of the story as the clothing itself, giving life and story to each piece. Like the opera heroines who inspire the collection, the pieces and their wearers are intense and unique. They celebrate all that is feminine, but in ways that surprise and amaze the attendees.

2022 – Siracusa

For this 10th anniversary celebration, Dolce & Gabbana celebrates the marriage of the arts of fashion and opera in an extravagant reenactment of Cavalleria rusticana. The 700 guests were treated to an elaborate show that featured 106 handcrafted pieces highlighting Dolce & Gabbana’s 10-year tour of Italy. With the ultimate goal of presenting pure, breathtakingly beautiful pieces, the house leaned into the narrative element of its opera-rich history. The story it presented continued the meditation on the union of opposites: classic and baroque, aristocracy and people, catharsis and prayer.

The Alta Moda Collection is history and tale, passion and myth. Celebrate with Dolce & Gabbana in its unrivaled art of creating stunning clothing with a story that the wearer can be proud to share.
