However, we can’t make our own paint colors to paint our house but there are several ways we can use to get rid of the paint fumes later.

There are many household ways and ingredients that you can use to get rid of paint fumes very easily. But the main thing you need to keep in mind is that do not wait for the paint to get finished completely. Parallel with the work going on, start to use the methods regularly in order to remove the smell of the paint properly. Because it takes time for the ingredients to absorb the whole smell of paint, it gradually shows the result. Using it from the very start would remove the paint fumes perfectly and would make it easy for you to relax in your new space right away.

Few helpful ways to get rid of the paint fumes!

The list of household methods to get rid of the paint fumes is mentioned below. You can use any of them as per the need and availability.

  • Baking Soda.

Baking soda is very helpful in absorbing the bad smell or odors in the laundry and refrigerator and would definitely work like a magic in getting rid of paint fumes as well. So in order to remove the paint smell using baking soda what you need to do is- take it on a plate and sprinkle it in your room. Just leave it overnight and collect it in the morning to throw it away.

You can use it for the soft furnishing of your sofa or carpet. Just spread it over them, leave it for the whole night and then clean it the next day, the results are guaranteed.

  • Activated Charcoal.

Another one of the best order reducers or absorbers. It is also used as an air purifier, so you can understand how well it will work in removing the smell of paint. Purchase it from the market in kilograms or a packet of crushed charcoal. Now the process of using it for the purpose is no different from that of baking soda. Just take a small piece of charcoal, place it on a plate, and scatter it in the corners of your room. Same as baking soda, leave it overnight, you will see the paint smell has been dissipated in the morning.

  • Take low VOC paint.

While you go to buy the paint bucket, select it wisely. Pick the paint that has low VOC, VOC is nothing but a volatile organic compound present in the paint which is mainly responsible for causing paint smells. So, select the paint with low VOC i.e. the paint that does not have a strong scent present in it.

  • Use air purifiers.

Using air purifiers like- a fan, cooler, and ac would help in absorbing the bad smell of paint. Though they won’t contribute to the quick-drying of paint but would surely help in getting rid of the paint fumes. So, switch them on the moment you start painting or open the bucket of paint.

  • Onions

Though onions too smell very bad their smell doesn’t last for longer once removed. So using onions to get rid of the paint smell is also a good option. It is very easy to use onion for the same purpose, just cut it into pieces, place it on a plate, and keep it in the room where paint is going on. With the help of a chemical present in it, onions neutralize the paint smell very effectively.

  • Keep your house cool and well ventilated.

Keep all the doors and windows of your house open in order to maintain the proper flow of air coming in and going out of the room. Doing so will eventually result in keeping the room cool. But an important thing you need to keep in mind is during winters, make sure to not switch on the heater till the time the paint gets dry. That’s it, this is all you need to do to remove the smell of paint using easy and natural ways.
