Primatene tablets are prescribed medicines to help you treat the symptoms of Asthma. It belongs to a category of drugs classified as Expectorant/Decongestant combis. Primatene can be used alone or along with other medications. 

What are the possible side effects of Primatene Tablets?

Primatene tablets can cause the following severe side effects in some cases:

  • hives,
  • severe dizziness,
  • swelling of your lips, face, tongue, or throat,
  • difficulty breathing,
  • weakness,
  • fast, pounding or irregular heartbeat,
  • muscle cramps,
  • mood changes,
  • hallucinations,
  • anxiety,
  • worsening breathing problems 
  • chest pain, and
  • wheezing

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms it is best to get medical help right away. 

Some common side effects of Primatene are :

  • headache,
  • dizziness,
  • vomiting,
  • Nervousness
  • nausea,
  • Shaking,
  • stomach upset,
  • trouble sleeping,
  • dry mouth,
  • sweating,
  • bad taste,
  • cough, and
  • sore throat.

You should visit a doctor if these side effects do not subside.

DESCRIPTION OF PRIMATENE MIST

Drug Facts

Active ingredient (in each inhalation)

Epinephrine 0.22 mg 

Inactive Ingredients

dehydrated alcohol (34%), dichlorotetrafluoroethane (CFC 114), ascorbic acid, dichlorodifluoromethane (CFC 12),  nitric acid,  hydrochloric acid, and purified water

INDICATIONS

Uses

  • To get temporary relief from mild or occasional asthma symptoms
  • Shortness of breath, tightness of chest, and wheezing

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

DIRECTIONS

  • You should not exceed the dosage limit for Primatene
  • Children over 4 years and adults can start with one pump and wait for 1 minute. If you do not feel any relief, use it after 3 hours again, no less.

PRECAUTIONS

Do not use

  • You are medically tested and confirmed to have asthma
  • Taking medication containing monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI).

Ask a doctor before use if you have

  • Got hospitalized for asthma-related heart condition
  • Thyroid, diabetes, high bp, seizure
  • Emotional condition or narrow-angle glaucoma
  • Enlarged prostate gland

Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are

  • Taking medications for obesity, asthma, depression, weight control, emotional conditions or psychiatric conditions. 
  • Taking medicine containing pseudoephedrine, caffeine, phenylephrine, or ephedrine.

When using this product

  • Increased heart rate or blood pressure can lead to more serious complications like stroke and heart attack. This risk increases if you take Primatene tablets frequently or more than recommended dosage. 
  • Sleeplessness, nervousness, tremor, rapid heartbeat, and seizure. If the symptoms get worse or persist you must consult a doctor.
  • Avoid any caffeinated food or beverage.
  • Avoid any dietary supplements with stimulant effects
  • Do not throw or puncture into the incinerator.
  • Do not store the Primatene near open flame or heat above 49 degrees C. 

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Do not use

  • unless you are medically tested for asthma
  • If you are currently on medication for depression, emotional condition, or Parkinson’s disease.
