Candles are an amazing gift idea for people of all ages and cultures. It doesn’t matter whether you want to give it to your grandparents or work colleagues. Everyone loves candles!
While it’s easy to just pick any candle you visually like and give it to someone, it’s much more difficult to choose the right candle – one that will resonate with their personality and make them feel special, like an AKT lantern candle, for instance.
So, in today’s post, we will discuss how to choose the right candle for a gift. Let’s dive in!
Personality
The first thing you should do is research the personality of the recipient and understand their interests. Do they like traditional, classic things or modern and trendy stuff? Do they wear florals more or dark clothing?
All such observations will reveal a lot about the likes and dislikes of the person. This information will help decide the best type of candle. For example, traditional people will like vanilla and rose-scented candles more than fig or mandarin.
If the person is a close family member or friend, you can also ask them directly about their preferences. But pose as if you want to purchase the candle for someone else. This will maintain the surprise!
Occasion & Season
Sometimes, you are not near the recipient to observe their current interests. And, sometimes, you don’t know the person too well to draw any conclusions about their personality. In these cases, it’s best to consider the occasion.
For example, if it’s Christmas, you may want to give peppermint or gingerbread-scented candles. If it’s Halloween, you can opt for candy-scented candles. Or you can choose an unscented candle with festive decoration.
If there’s no occasion around the corner, don’t panic because the season serves as an amazing guideline too. People typically prefer wood-based scents in Winter and Autumn. So, you can go with pine, sandalwood, or cedar scents.
Alternatively, if Summer and Spring are the current seasons, fruity and floral scents will make a better combination. Some examples include lavender, jasmine, and berries.
Mood
Fragrances have the power to set up a mood and evoke an experience in our lives. Remember how certain smells remind us of when we were young? You can use this ability of scents to make the candle special for the recipient.
There are two ways to do that; think of a cherishable event in the recipient’s life or consider their personality. If you know about a memorable event like a vacation in Hawaii, match the candle scent and decor to it.
Alternatively, if the person is often anxious and stressed, choose candles with relaxing and calming effects like vanilla. Or if they are depressed, go with uplifting fruity scents.
Eco-Friendliness
And last but definitely not least, consider the eco-friendliness of the candle because there is no point in finding the perfect scented candle if the recipient is turned off by the way it was made. Global warming is real, and we need to be more responsible. Period.
It’s best to choose candles made with organic waxes like coconut wax and soy wax. They are natural and biodegradable, with less negative impact on the world. But avoid those cheap paraffin candles at all costs!
