You might often face the issue of the shifter lever becoming loose or the issue of creaky seats while you are riding the bike. These issues are mainly caused if you avoid checking the fitting of bolts and nuts for a long time. Over-tightening and under-tightening the bolts often leads to these issues. Therefore, it is to make sure that they are properly fitted. In order to deal with these issues, you can use a torque wrench. Here is all you need to know about torque wrench and how to use it.

Why is Torque Wrench Important?

A torque wrench is a tool that is utilized to apply a particular torque to a fastener like bolts or nuts. It is mainly used for places where the tightness of the bolts and screws is crucial.

Each and every faster is designed to hold a specific range of tension, which is known as torque specification. You can see that torque wrench is always suggested on the bike parts, it means that the fastener of your bike is able to hold that torque specification. It helps in managing the proper loading and tension of all parts.

Since all the fasteners in your bike are designed to hold a specific amount of tension, and they load at that certain amount only, so too tight or too loose nuts and bolts can cause problems during the ride. Torque wrench helps in particular torque to a fastener, which helps the fastener in meeting the specification for particular uses.

How to Measure Using Torque Wrench?

Torque wrench helps in making sure that you have perfectly tightened the nuts and bolts. There are two main types of the torque wrench.

A click-type torque wrench provides you a designated range to select the torque setting.

How to Use?

While using the click-type torque wrench, make sure that the torque wrench you have accommodates the torque specs on the fastener that you want to tighten. In order to operate it, you need to add the right bit to the wrench’s socket. Then select the needed torque setting and finally tighten the targeted fastener until you hear a click.

  • Do not use a torque wrench to loosen the fasteners
  • When you use a torque wrench with a wide range of torque settings, make sure to bring the wrench back to zero.
  • Always make sure that the fastener you are tightening is properly threaded.
