In the past few years, the case of depression, anxiety and suicide have been continuously increasing among the U.S. teens. Increasing depression in US teens is an issue of concern. A study published in the Journal of Abnormal Psychology has concluded that since, the late era of the late 2000s, the mental health of young adults and teens have drastically declined in the country.

According to the study, between the year 2009 and 2017, the rate of depression among kinds belonging to the age group of 14-17 years has increased by 60%. Moreover, according to the federal data of the year 2017, more than one among eight American belonging to the age group of 12 to 25 years experienced a severe depressive episode.

As children grow into adults, they face varied situations in the school, surroundings and event at their home, which often often lead to increasing depression in US teens. As children grow into teenagers, it often becomes difficult for the parents to understand the mental and emotional state. It is one of the main reasons for increasing depression in US teens. Communication with kids here refers to listening to your child calmly and guiding them in a friendly manner rather than overreacting.
  • Seek Professional Help: If the behavior of your teenager concerns you a lot, then don’t wait to seek professional help. Contact your nearby mental health provider and start providing your kid with counseling.
  • Share Your Feelings: Let your teen know that he or she is not alone, and everyone feels anxious or depressed. Make your kid feel that he or she is important to you and make your teen feel valuable.
  • Motivate your Kid not to Isolate Herself or Himself from Friends or Family: It is better to be surrounded by people. But never push your kid if he or she is not okay.
