It was a feminine collection that embraced sensuality. Dominating the catwalk were stunning designs of dresses, coats and suits in classic black that define the luxury Italian fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana. This year, during Milan Fashion Week, the Women’s Collection autumn/winter 2023/24 “Sensuale” collection came with a message. Not to be confused with sexuality, sensualism is a celebration of the connection of the inner woman and her experience, bringing out her natural and spontaneous charisma. The first model in a sheer black dress with a furry collar and long transparent gloves was a breathtaking beginning to an incredible show that was about to unfold.

The Collection by Dolce & Gabbana

The collection drips with nostalgia as it captures the era of late 1980s and early ’90s fashion. Garments of classic black, bright red, brilliant white and gold shine with the celebration of meticulously tailored cuts of weights and volumes. The pieces portray a feeling of sensuality, stepping away from sexuality—the representation Dolce & Gabbana wishes to express by definition. Double pence trousers of black chiffon, Chantilly lace bodices with sheer bras, silk satin culottes, spencer jackets with satin and wool canvas labels and silk chiffon dresses with large curls filled the runway with must-have pieces for women everywhere.

The Symbolism

Experience, attitude and a woman’s soul make her sensual and are the narrative Dolce & Gabbana portrays in the new collection. The concept is a restart look into the non-superficial classic beauty of women. Carefully tailored pieces caress the body and define its shape to unveil a woman’s inner sensuality and charisma that is timeless and pure. The Italian brand introduces a brand new key into the mystical nuances of sensuality.

The New Discovery

Laced underwear-outerwear over silk blouses was a signature fashion statement in the 1990s. Dolce & Gabbana brings it back as a new creation for the younger generation to explore and revive the inspiration of past generations. The collection signifies the foundation of how the brand gained its notoriety. Wearing the 90’s garments gave women a sense of comfort, sensuality and a feeling of power. The emotion still holds thirty years later and will transcend to women of younger generations.

The Culture

Models taking the runway by storm in classic black lace commemorate the authenticity of the 1990s appeal. Regardless of the fashion status quo, the Italian duo wishes to reset the codes and timeless pieces to last throughout the seasons of the future. Striving for the natural characteristics of beautiful women and imagery, Dolce & Gabbana is stepping away from what is ‘sexy’ to commemorate the charismatic and sensual woman.

The Classic Dolce & Gabbana

Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have a long history in the fashion world. In 1991, the couple gained international notoriety by designing a gemstone corset and an accompanying jacket that Madonna wore in New York City for the premiere of Truth or Dare. In 2012, the Alta Moda concept was a tribute to the artisanship of Italian expressions and its tailoring traditions, creating the recognition of the Italian fashion brand’s reputation for its mastery of fine-tailored classic pieces.
